Have GeoTrax Been Discontinued?

Did Fisher Price Discontinue GeoTrax?

Sadly, the simple answer to this question is "yes". But wait! Don't despair. There still is hope for those of us who love GeoTrax for ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren.

According to a Facebook post I saw from someone at Fisher Price, they officially stopped selling these toys in the summer of 2013.

Even though you can no longer get GeoTrax sets at Toys R Us, Kohl's, Sam's Club, or other major chain stores, you can still find them in what most people would call the secondary market. There are many GeoTrax toys available on sites like Amazon.com and eBay.com. You can also look at UniSquare.com, OnlineAuctions.com, Craigslist.com, and other smaller sites that feature children's toys.

What Kinds of GeoTrax Can You Find?

You might be surprised that even at this somewhat late date, some sellers on Amazon, eBay, UniSquare, OnlineAuctions, and elsewhere still have new-in-box (often labeled NIB) sets available.

I have seen many, though not all, of the hundreds of original GeoTrax set for sale as NIB. You might find some of the starter sets like Tracktown Railway, Timbertown Railway, or All About Trains still in their original packaging.

What I like to call expansion sets, ones that you probably wouldn't buy until you already had at least one starter set, you will see in abundance, especially on eBay. These include older sets like Freightway Transport, Big Falls Wrecking, and High Chimes Clock Tower as well as later sets such as Cars Lightning McQueen, Escape from Big Bentley, and Mater.

In addition, there are Super Friends sets like Batman's Engine, Joker's Engine, and Penguin's Lair. With sets like these, you can have a track layout totally about one theme!

Complete Original Sets Can Be Hard to Find

Many of the offerings on eBay and Craigslist seem to be haphazardly put together. They may not resemble the original sets at all. If you are looking only for complete sets, you need to know what the components of a given set were.

Fisher Price still has some of this information on its own site, but it's not all-inclusive.

There are a handful of other sites out there that list some of the sets that Fisher Price produced from 2003 through 2011. A new and growing site for GeoTrax sets is called GeoTrax Packs - just like this blog.

As of this writing, that site gives you as complete a list of GeoTrax sets as I know of. Soon it will hopefully give you a complete list of each set's components as well.
